Celebrations of December: Christmas Day in Sun Lakes

In a move that surprised no one, both Geneva and Megan failed to rise in time to sing the 9am mass on Christmas Day. Laurent the Valiant was the only Heidmann chorister to make it. The rest of us had a slow start, but made it to church in time to pick her up and drive down to Sun Lakes for our Traditional Heidmann Family Christmas at the Grands.

The comfort of being with loved ones, following the traditions (shrimp, eggnog and lefse before dinner, a feast of Minnesota wild rice, ham, cheesy potatoes, and Nettie Bread; the family program including Christmas story, carol singing, and performances by the grand-things, gifts joyfully given and received, with Jessica’s fancy desserts and Grandma’s Christmas Cookie platter after gifts) ingrained over our years together, is such a gift, and not to be taken for granted. We were especially aware of our blessings this year as we were joined by a homeless lady Paul met through SVdP. As we enter this new year, please remember those who are without shelter, without food, without dignity, without hope. Pray for them, and perhaps find some small way to be Christ to them, either through a charity like St. Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army, or another food bank or resource center. The need is always great, and even a small gift of time or money can make a difference — but the greatest difference is made when works of mercy are accompanied by prayer. So please, pray. Always pray!

I homeschooled four kids all the way through high school and then fostered/adopted 7 more children. I am wife to a very smart mathematician; I dabble in photography, write and sing, paint in bright colors, and love being Catholic!

  1. Looks like it was a typically boisterous and fun day!
