Last week was a week fraught with frustrations but ending in a delightful outing for the Heidmann Academy. Early in the week, Paul discovered that the water pump was broken on the van. This brought us down to a one-car family, which, if you know anything about our schedule, including jobs and college and a variety of diverse and simultaneous-to-one-another ministry responsibilities at church, is pretty crippling.
However, since he was still on work furlough, Paul was able to do some things around home that otherwise he would not. One such thing was taking Megan on a photo walk on Wednesday (for her photography class) in the downtown area. While they were there, he decided it would be an excellent field trip to bring the rest of the kids to Wesley Bolin Plaza to see all the war memorials. So Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, while he was fixing the water pump, I had the kids do a unit study on WWII as preparation. Friday afternoon we met up with the grands at the park and had a really wonderful time touring the memorials and the Arizona State Capital museum, with its four floors and balconied rotunda, ancient elevator, many exhibits and artifacts, and the 14,000 piece Lego Arizona State Flag.

It was a very enjoyable outing and highly educational as well. I definitely want to return and take a little more time in the museum.
