One aspect of the Catholic Tradition that I find to be a source of blessing is the treasure trove of devotional practices handed down through the centuries, which enrich our understanding the glorious gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, a devotion which takes the physical heart of Christ as a representation of his divine love for all of humanity.\u00a0 You can read more on the history and doctrine here<\/a><\/strong> and here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

To the Sacred Heart of Jesus
\nI give myself
\nand consecrate to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ,
\nmy person and my life,
\nmy actions,
\npains and sufferings,
\nso that I may be unwilling to make use
\nof any part of my being other than to honor,
\nlove and glorify the Sacred Heart.
\nThis is my unchanging purpose, namely,
\nto be all His,
\nand to do all things for the love of Him,
\nat the same time renouncing with all my heart
\nwhatever is displeasing to Him.
\nI therefore take You,
\nO Sacred Heart,
\nto be the only object of my love,
\nthe guardian of my life,
\nmy assurance of salvation,
\nthe remedy of my weakness and inconstancy,
\nthe atonement for all the faults of my life
\nand my sure refuge at the hour of death.<\/p>\n

Be then, O Heart of goodness,
\nmy justification before God the Father,
\nand turn away from me the strokes of his righteous anger.
\nO Heart of love,
\nI put all my confidence in You,
\nfor I fear everything from my own wickedness and frailty,
\nbut I hope for all things from Your goodness and bounty.<\/p>\n

Remove from me all that can displease You
\nor resist Your holy will;
\nlet your pure love imprint Your image
\nso deeply upon my heart,
\nthat I shall never be able to forget You

May I obtain from all Your loving kindness
