extra tics, twitches, and near constant bouncing. The mini-trampoline has been a blessing during these too-cold-to-go-outside days (not that he needs one, he bounces on the hard floor as though he has springs in his calves). Working around these issues is extremely challenging. I am seeing progress in his math though, with the long period we have been working on just the one skill of subtraction, and we’re going to begin multiplication in earnest.

Had the girls work on some much needed organizing today. The school shelves were a disaster. The office floor was a disaster. The kitchen was a disaster. The dining room was a disaster. You get the picture… it was bad. As of tonight, the pantry is totally reorganized, the school book shelves were completely emptied, dusted, and restored to beautiful order, the dining room was cleaned, and we were able to dine around the table (yay!!).

Decided to reward everyone with a trip to our local treasure trove (Goodwill). Unfortunately when we drove up it was obvious that the place was abandoned. We saw a sign on the window indicating they had moved to a new location about a mile away, so we happily drove there. Got out and began walking toward the building, when we saw a huge banner over the door that read “Grand Opening, February 17!” Sigh. So much for treasure hunting.

Went to Wal-mart instead so Megan could look for jeans, and Jacob could look for an action figure on which to spend his precious dollars. I was planning on just those two things, since we normally make a family event, on alternating Thursdays, of our major shopping trips. However, one thing led to another, and I left the store with two carts full and was actually glad to be done with it all.

Paul had just gotten home from work when we returned, and was doing some internet car shopping. He took off to check out some deals while I made supper – Nettie Spaghetti. The recipe for this dish is fairly fluid, but here’s tonight’s ingredient list, as a sample of how it can go:

1 lb. ground turkey

1 lb. ground turkey sausage

1 red bell pepper, chopped

1 small white onion, chopped
Saute with a little olive oil, several shakes of dark soy sauce, several shakes of Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and Italian herbs to taste, and about 1/2 – 1 tsp. red pepper flakes. Add:

1 can diced tomatoes

1 can Hunts Traditional Spaghetti sauce

a little brown sugar

either a can of tomato paste, or a few squeezes of ketchup IF the sauce is too watery (which it was tonight, and I couldn’t find my tomato paste, so I used the ketchup, and it was super delish).

1 can red kidney beans
Simmer as long as you like, or until you finish boiling

whole wheat spaghetti noodles, however many you want to cook up for your crew. (or gluten free pasta, or serve the sauce over french cut green beans, or baked potatoes even – any which way you like it)
Serve with a side salad, or as I did tonight, sauteed broccoli.

Oh I forgot – throw some Parmesan cheese into the sauce just before serving – to taste, 1/4 to 1/2 a cup.

When Paul got home he made the big mistake of telling me that he had looked at a yellow mustang. BUT that it was too much $$ for our budget. I cried a little. I’m ok now.

After supper, Mother and I sat at the dining room table and watched while Megan and Geneva worked on some of their characterizations for the upcoming production of Robin Hood, using the tile in front of the entry mirror as a stage. Megan can’t decide whether to do a Cockney, Kentucky, or Romanian Gypsy accent for her role of Mother Meg. Geneva is working on shuffling and hobbling for her ancient and wizened old widow role. She borrowed Mom’s cane to help get into character. I laughed too much. Way too much.

Jeff came over and had some Nettie Spaghetti. Luvd it, knew he would. We watched some Bones… my head was starting to throb… I think it started with the laughing…

Then Jacob started complaining of a sore throat.

Boooooo – I thought we were doing really well avoiding the Germ, but I think it found its way into our clan.

Must sleep. zzzzzzzzz….

Having an end of the day headache, so this post will be random and discombobulated…
