I don’t know when this modern trend of starting school in the middle – or even at the beginning – of August began, but it’s nutty and I don’t like it.\u00a0 I’m a mid-western gal through and through – school starts after Labor Day, period.<\/h5>\n
That said, if my two thespians had to wait a minute longer for MoezArt to begin I think some kind of tragedy would ensue.\u00a0 Early this morning I was already hearing giggles and squeals from down the hallway, in anticipation of their first day of theater class.\u00a0 Sigh.\u00a0 Let the insanity begin.<\/h5>\n
Realizing that the end of summer had suddenly and unceremoniously fallen in my lap and I no longer had the luxury of dawdling about, I took the girls with me on Monday when I drove Jacob to karate, and dropped Geneva off at the Walmart salon so she could have someone who knew what they were doing trim up her shaggy overgrown mom-cut into something gorgeous.<\/h5>\n

While we were at Walmart wandering the clothing department looking for blouses, I was abruptly grabbed by the shoulders from behind – by my husband!\u00a0 I often go to Walmart during Karate, but not always, so I wondered if he had just assumed I’d be there and come in and wandered around till he found me.\u00a0 Oh no, he was more clever than that.\u00a0 He found the minivan in the parking lot first, so he knew I was inside.\u00a0 So that was a fun little interlude, since he had a few minutes to walk around with us before he had to leave to grab some supper and get to his St. Vincent de Paul meeting.<\/h5>\n
When we finally got out to the car, I got in, turned it on, and noticed two things immediately: the A\/C was turned off (I always stupidly leave it in the on position when I exit the vehicle) and the radio, which I had left at Immaculate Heart Radio, was blasting something ear-shattering from the Rock n Roll station.\u00a0 I had to laugh at my CLEVER husband… he’s such a prankster.\u00a0 I should be thankful he didn’t yank my sparkplugs or some other such nonsense he used to pull with his college buddies… (Course I’d have to call HIM for a rescue if he did that!)<\/h5>\n
Another clue that summer is winding down came in the older girls’ email yesterday from their SSJ Youth leader, informing them that they were both selected for the ROC leadership team – the junior high youth group.\u00a0 That’s an exciting opportunity to serve, and as a bonus, they will gain a few dozen new younger siblings. \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 Scheduling-wise, Mondays will become our busiest day I think… with karate for Jacob, followed immediately by ROC for the three girls, I’ll also be picking up the candidate I am sponsoring in RCIA and bringing her to class; meanwhile, Paul is taking two courses this semester at the Institute of Catholic Theology, one of which is on Monday nights – so we’re all going to be quite busy that day!<\/h5>\n
We’re down to less than a day until Laurent takes her driving test, and her dad has yet to take her out and practice parallel parking.\u00a0 It’s pretty much got to be tonight.\u00a0 I’ve done most of the driving practice with her, but this is one area where my expertise is … shall we say, limited.\u00a0 I think we’d all be better off if he takes this one! \ud83d\ude00\u00a0 Anyway, here’s to a great driver’s test tomorrow, may she pass with flying colors so she will be able to drive herself to college! (And so I can start using her as my go-fer!\u00a0 Woohoo!!)<\/h5>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
