There aren’t many constants in this world upon which you can
\nrely with absolute, unfailing certainty,
\nbut one of the few I’ve found is that when
\nThe Boy
\ngets a bee in his bonnet,
\none will not hear the end of it for a
\nVery.\u00c2\u00a0 Long.\u00c2\u00a0 Time.<\/p>\n

The first bee in his bonnet,
\nfollowing that disastrous moment when Uncle Jeff
\nintroduced him to
\nDr. Horrible,
\nand the Mad Scientist obsession was born,
\nwas the goggles.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>So he earned a little money, and he was able to buy these ultra cool shades.<\/p>\n

And ever since that day in early February,
\nthere’s been a theme to everything
\nthat comes out of his mouth:<\/p>\n

(From over in the office while he’s at his computer…)<\/em>
\n“Mom, come here and look at this Lab Coat I found online!”<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Popping up behind me while I’m at the computer…)<\/em>
\n“Lab coat!”<\/strong><\/p>\n

(From the back seat while we’re driving to church…)<\/em>
\n“Mom, when can I get a lab coat?”<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Through the bathroom door when I’m brushing my teeth…)<\/em>
\n“Lab-coat-Lab-coat-Lab-coat!”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Finally the day came when he had saved enough money in his savings jar
\nand we could go to the uniform store
\nand
\nActually Get The Lab Coat!!!<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>It was a profoundly gratifying moment,
\nespecially when he was allowed to wear it out of the store.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>The full costume.<\/p>\n

Well… almost… he has already begun saving for the last piece of the outfit:<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>Black PVC coated Gloves<\/a><\/p>\n

Now, you might think that all this is just for fun and dress up and play,
\nbut that would be incorrect.<\/p>\n

It is imperative, for a
\nReal Scientist,
\nto be properly dressed for work.<\/p>\n

And once properly dressed,
\nit is imperative for a
\nReal Scientist
\nto actually do some
\nReal Science!<\/p>\n

Thus, last evening we found ourselves crammed, all six of us, into my tiny
\nkitchen<\/span> Scientific Laboratory
\nto view a couple of experiments,
\nwhich went like this:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>1.\u00c2\u00a0 Pour water in the beaker.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>2.\u00c2\u00a0 Add enough granulated sugar to cover the bottom up to about 1\/4 of an inch.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>3.\u00c2\u00a0 Stir until granulated sugar dissolves.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>4.\u00c2\u00a0 Look at mother menacingly in true Dr. Horrible fashion.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>5.\u00c2\u00a0 Have your dad pour a bunch of concentrated sulfuric acid into the water.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>6.\u00c2\u00a0 Watch the bubbles begin to form in the solution as it gets hotter and hotter.<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>7.\u00c2\u00a0 …and hotter and hotter!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>8.\u00c2\u00a0 Wow, that’s hot!!<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>9.\u00c2\u00a0 OUCH!!<\/p>\n

~*~*~*~*~<\/p>\n

Ok, that was cool.<\/p>\n

What else can we do?
\nHow about….<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>
\nDumping baking soda into the hot sulfuric acid solution!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

This had the dual benefit of causing a big, dramatic reaction,
\nand also neutralizing the solution before pouring it down the drain.<\/p>\n

~*~*~*~*~<\/p>\n

Ok, that was fun, now what else can we do?<\/p>\n

How about…<\/p>\n

\nwhat boy doesn’t think<\/p>\n
