This afternoon we had a rare and golden opportunity
\nto spend a little time visiting with
\none of our oldest family friends,
\nStan Larson.
\nOur families met when Dad was pastoring the
\nFirst Missionary Church in Dodge City, KS.
\nSince I have a resident expert on that time period in house
\n(I was, after all, only about 7 or 8 at the time)
\nI asked mother for a few details on how our friendship with the Larson family began.
\nHere is her remembrance:<\/p>\n

\n

We met Stan and Jan Larson\u00c2\u00a0 and family (Carl, Kathleen and Jean) when they moved to Dodge City, KS, from Waconia, MN.\u00c2\u00a0 Stan had\u00c2\u00a0been a teacher at Crown College (a\u00c2\u00a0 Christian & Missionary Alliance Bible College) for some years, and felt the need for a change.\u00c2\u00a0 They packed up and headed for SW Kansas where he began teaching at Dodge City Junior College (JUCO).\u00c2\u00a0 The 1st Sunday they were in town, they visited our Missionary Church (where Jay was pastoring) for a Sunday Evening service.\u00c2\u00a0 We were quite delighted to meet this family with 3 children close in ages to our 3….and providentially, we had purchased a big watermelon from a man going door to door before we headed out to Church that evening.\u00c2\u00a0 So, we eagerly invited them to join us after the service for this delicious treat!\u00c2\u00a0 They came, we became fast friends….Stan introduced us as a family to C. S. Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia and Tolkien’s Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.\u00c2\u00a0 They became great favorites of ours, and only cemented our families’ friendship.\u00c2\u00a0 After we left Dodge City for British Colombia, Canada, they too left Dodge and took up residence again in Minnesota.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 And where did WE end up when we left B.C.?\u00c2\u00a0 Back in Minnesota!\u00c2\u00a0 So we have resumed and kept that friendship going.\u00c2\u00a0 We are so thankful for God’s bringing them into all of our lives!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

My memories of the Larson family
\ninclude
\nlate night hide and go seek in the neighborhood
\nice cream with Jan Larson’s delicious chocolate sauce
\nboard games
\nLord of the Rings trivia
\nStan’s amazing vegetable garden
\nbunny rabbits
\n(lots and lots of bunny rabbits…)
\nBrink, the Boxer
\ntwo canoes and 3 paddles
\nand so many more good memories of fellowship.<\/p>\n

We met Stan at the Biltmore Plaza and enjoyed a lovely dinner at
\nthe Cheesecake Factory.<\/p>\n

\n(I say smile!\u00c2\u00a0 He gives me the lip curl… contrary is his middle name.)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Sourdough and Honey-Wheat!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Light through Bottles!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Southwest egg rolls and salsa!<\/p>\n

\n

\"\"<\/a>Chicken Quesadillas and triple dip!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Cold spring rolls (?) I think…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>They looked tasty!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sweet Potato Fries – Oh MY!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Outside the restaurant before leaving…
\nthe kids had run off to look at Vera Bradley and Border Books, so they missed out on the last photo-op. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Some gorgeous sun-set light…
\nwhich we would not have seen had we not walked all the way to the east side of the Biltmore looking with Stan for his car.
\nWhich he did find, right where he left it. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>More beauty, and a fitting end to a wonderful afternoon
\nof renewing friendship.<\/p>\n
